I Peter 4:10 “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” (NIV)
God’s grace is a beautiful gift. It offers forgiveness, restoration, comfort, understanding and peace. We welcome it in our lives, and often times expect it because “if God is loving, surely He will understand my circumstances”. But we are not always so quick to extend grace to those around us.
This scripture calls us to be “faithful stewards of God’s grace.” A steward in Bible times was the head servant who could be trusted above all others. He was the “office manager” of the estate. God has given His grace to us so that we can extend His grace to others.
Too often when our co-workers irritate us, a family member disappoints us or the person on the road makes an error that inconveniences us, we withhold grace and quickly return to the “law”. YOU SHOULDN’T HAVE DONE THAT – YOU HURT ME -YOU ARE WRONG. And instead of showing compassion or forgiveness we make sure to find a way to retaliate or at least make sure others know how we’ve been wronged. (You’re not going to BELIEVE what THEY did.)
As a Christian, you have been PROMOTED to a manager of grace. Freely you have received, freely give. (Matthew 10:8). Walk in His love today and offer the same grace you hope others will offer you.
