Walking it Out

Sometimes I get grief for being “overly positive”, but believe me, I have my share of struggles as well. Today I feel like I have stuff coming at me from all directions – I think this is referred to as stress. So how does the one who continually tells everyone that ANY day can be extraordinary deal with a day full of stress?

A typical response to stress is to get out of it and seek some pleasure, whether that be a cupcake, a second glass of wine or a trip to the mall. Experts tell us that “medicating” our stress can often caused increased stress. The healthy way to cope is to walk through it, experience it and learn from it. I think too many times I’ve run from the lessons God wanted me to learn. So today I choose a different path:

I walk the talk and stand on the Word of God. His Word is more than an inspirational story or motivating words – it is the foundation of my very life. And here’s what God’s Word says about my day:

His grace is sufficient for me * 2 Corinthians 12:9

My God holds me in His hand * Isaiah 41:13

My God goes before me, beside me and behind me * Deuteronomy 31:8

The joy of the Lord is my strength * Nehemiah 8:10

Joy and happiness are not the same thing – happiness is fleeting but joy is a deep-seated peace that it’s all going to work out. I love the saying “It’s all going to be okay in the end, if it’s not okay, it’s not the end”. Happiness is not a fruit of the Spirit, but joy IS and I choose joy.

Proverbs 3:5 tells us to not trust in our own understanding but to acknowledge the Lord in all our ways…and He will direct our paths. I love the Contemporary English Version that says the Lord will “clear the road”.

MY GOD IS A BULLDOZER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
